TL;DR
A Buy with Prime order is a Shopify order with a tag. Shopify's Help Center puts the checkout in Shopify's own checkout [1], and Amazon says these orders raise "the same conversion tracking events as standard Shopify orders" [6]. WeltPixel Conversion Tracking splits orders into storefront and everything else, so that label sets who receives the purchase. You can read it in a minute on a real order. After the order, Amazon lists nineteen reasons it can cancel one [4], and a purchase the app already sent isn't taken back.
Key Takeaways
- Amazon offers two installs under the Buy with Prime name. Its conversion tracking guide describes a Social Ads app that Amazon says the current app can't use [6][7].
- Filter Orders by the Buy with Prime tag, then read the Channel column and the Timeline on the newest order.
- On the free plan the app sends storefront orders to GA4 only, up to 100 storefront orders a month [10]; an order with any other label is sent nowhere and isn't counted.
- On Plus ($39/month, no order limit) orders with any other label are sent unless Exclude Admin/API Orders is on, and that switch removes POS and staff-created draft orders along with them [10].
- A cancelled Buy with Prime order the app already sent stays in GA4 and your ad platforms. Check the Timeline reason on each one and fix the store setting behind it.
- Reconcile once: tagged orders per day in Shopify against purchases per day in GA4.
Which Buy with Prime setup is on your Shopify store?
Amazon uses one name for two installs. The current one is the Multichannel Fulfillment app for Shopify, which Shopify's Help Center lists as the Amazon MCF and Buy with Prime app [1]. Shopify's page offers Buy with Prime "when they check out with Amazon Pay or Shop Pay", asks for "the latest version of checkout", and says a Prime shopper is "taken to the checkout order review page" [1]. Amazon describes shoppers adding Prime-eligible products "and any others to your Shopify site's existing cart" and checking out "in one transaction" [3]. Eligibility is narrow: a US-based store selling in USD, with US domestic shipping and Shopify Payments active [1].
The older install is a Buy with Prime checkout added to the site directly. Amazon's migration page says that if you've already added Buy with Prime checkout, "you can still migrate your implementation" to the app [8], so some stores run it today. Amazon's tracking page asks merchants to add order.buywithprime.amazon.com to GA4's unwanted referrals [7].
Place a Prime order on your own store and watch the address bar after the Amazon sign-in [1]. If the order review and payment page is on your domain, you're on the current app. If it moves to an Amazon address, you're probably on the older install.
What do Shopify and Amazon say happens at checkout?
The pages say less than a tracking setup needs, and everything below was read on October 20, 2026.
| Question | What the pages say | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Is a Shopify order created? | Orders "are automatically synced to your Shopify admin" and carry a Buy with Prime tag, the delivery method "Amazon Prime" and an identifier starting 322 | [1][4] |
| Do pixels fire? | Amazon: Buy with Prime orders "initiate the same conversion tracking events as standard Shopify orders". Shopify: pixels "automatically load on the Storefront, Checkout, Thank you page, and Order status page" | [6][2] |
| Which channel or app is the order filed under? | Not stated. Shopify's Order object documents its source field only through examples | [9] |
| When does Amazon capture payment? | Not stated. The payment statuses listed are Authorized, Paid and Payment pending | [4] |
The pixel sentence is Amazon's, and no Shopify page mentions Buy with Prime and pixels together, so treat it as a claim to test. Amazon's orders page sets them apart from MCF orders with Prime delivery: Buy with Prime orders are the ones "which Amazon receives independently of Shopify's order processing rules" [4]. Read next to the rest, that reads as fulfillment routing, but that's our inference: the page doesn't mention payment.
We haven't placed one of these orders. Selling through Buy with Prime takes a US store in USD and an Amazon seller account [1], and we don't run that. So the label comes from your Orders list, which is the next section.
Read one tagged order before you trust any report
Shopify's Help Center says you can filter the Orders list with the Buy with Prime tag [1]. Five steps on the newest tagged order:
- Filter Orders to the Buy with Prime tag.
- Read the Channel column and write down the exact label. Shopify publishes no fixed set of order source values, as the guide to TikTok Shop and marketplace orders in your tracking found, so what you see is the only definition you get.
- Open the order and read the Timeline. Amazon says a cancellation reason appears there [4].
- Read the order's Payment status; Amazon's examples are Authorized, Paid and Payment pending [4].
- Repeat on a second order a week later.
The label sends the order down one of two branches.
| Channel column shows | Free plan | Plus ($39/month) |
|---|---|---|
| An ordinary online store sale | Sent to GA4, the only destination on the free plan; counts toward the 100 storefront orders a month | Sent to every connected destination; Exclude Admin/API Orders doesn't touch it |
| Anything else | Sent nowhere, and not counted toward the 100 | Sent unless Exclude Admin/API Orders is on for that destination, and it may carry less browser context from the visit |
When the second row is yours, turning on Exclude Admin/API Orders removes these orders from that destination together with everything else in the bucket, as POS and admin order conversion tracking explains for POS and staff-created orders. The switch has no per-source choice. An order credited to another channel by a link's access token lands in the second row too, as the cart permalink article shows.
What happens when Amazon cancels an order you already reported?
By default the app sends the purchase when Shopify creates the order. It listens to order creation, payment and refunds, and nothing in it handles a cancellation, so a purchase already sent stays sent. Refunds and cancellations in ad platform reporting covers the routes that exist for each platform.
Amazon's list of cancellation reasons has nineteen entries [4]. Several point at store settings or data you control:
| Reason Amazon lists | What to check |
|---|---|
| Taxes included in subtotal | Markets > United States > Taxes > Manage > "Include sales tax in product price and shipping rate" |
| Currency in order is non-USD | The currency your market sells in |
| Missing product ID or SKU in catalog item data | Your product data |
| Payment authorization expired | The order's payment status |
| Unable to capture payment from Shopify | The order's payment status |
Most of the rest concern fulfillment orders, Prime promises and stock, such as unfulfillable items. Amazon also says Shopify sends completed Buy with Prime orders to Amazon "despite any Shopify Flow rules that you implement or fraud control apps" [5], and that an upsell item added during checkout "can cause a disruption to checkout for Buy with Prime orders", sometimes ending in a cancellation email to the shopper [6]. A cancellation after sending is ordinary here.
Amazon's own status list includes Authorized [4]. If you set a destination's "When to send the Purchase event" to "When the order is paid" (Plus), the app doesn't treat an authorized order as paid and waits for capture. Cash-on-delivery and bank-transfer orders walks through that setting and its date trade-offs. Amazon's pages don't say when it captures payment, so test the setting on one order before you rely on it.
You've probably scrolled a store's cancelled orders and wondered which reports still count them. Do that now with this filter: tag Buy with Prime, cancelled. Read the Timeline reason on each, fix the setting behind the most common one, and decide whether send-at-creation or send-on-paid fits.
Can Amazon's own tracking count the same order twice?
Amazon's tracking page doesn't say which install it covers. It describes a Social Ads for Buy with Prime app that sets up Meta's Conversions API with the pixel and Google's Enhanced Conversions, and an Advertising IDs page in the merchant console for a Meta Pixel ID, a Google Ads conversion ID and label, and a GA4 Measurement ID [7]. Amazon says the Social Ads app isn't compatible with the current app [6], and current-app stores also sign in to that console [8]. Open the Advertising IDs page on either install: any ID entered there is a second sender next to this app. Amazon adds that on Meta Ads, "you can't separate Buy with Prime orders from your ecommerce site orders" [7]. Run the daily reconcile below on a Prime-heavy day, and keep one sender per platform.
Three checks before the holiday volume
- Label. One tagged order, Channel column noted. On Plus, decide whether Exclude Admin/API Orders fits, knowing it also removes POS and staff-created draft orders.
- Tail. Every cancelled tagged order has a Timeline reason you've read. Tax-inclusive prices and non-USD pricing are the store-wide settings to fix first.
- Reconcile. Count tagged orders per day in Shopify. Then compare GA4 purchases for the same days. The app sends no order tags to any destination, so the tag filter in Shopify is the only way to split these orders out.
FAQ
Does the Prime button change my Meta or GA4 setup?
The app has no Buy with Prime setting, and nothing needs adding for the current install. Amazon's statement that these orders raise the same conversion tracking events as standard ones [6] is the reason to test one rather than assume.
Can I see Buy with Prime separately in GA4?
Not from the app's data. Amazon's own tools add a Buy with Prime item category on the GA4 side [7].
Does the free plan track these orders?
If the Channel column reads as an ordinary online store sale, GA4 gets them, within 100 storefront orders a month. If it reads as anything else, no destination gets them on the free plan, and they don't count toward the 100.
Do refunds reach GA4?
Amazon's returns page says merchant refunds are issued from the Buy with Prime merchant console [11], and none of the pages we read say that writes a refund onto the Shopify order. Open one refunded tagged order and look for a refund line. On Plus, a refund recorded on the Shopify order goes to GA4, and the app sends refunds to no other destination.
Send the purchase from the order, whichever way it was labelled
WeltPixel Conversion Tracking sends each order's purchase server-side from the Shopify order. The free plan is GA4 only, up to 100 storefront orders a month. Plus is $39/month with no order limit [10], adds the other nine integrations, and also sends admin, POS and draft orders. Open your Orders list on the Buy with Prime tag, read the Channel column and the Timeline on one order, then decide on Exclude Admin/API Orders and the send-on-paid setting before the holiday volume arrives.
