Do TikTok Shop, Instagram and Marketplace Orders Show Up in Your Shopify Tracking?

TL;DR

Where the customer found you doesn't sort these orders. Where checkout finished does. Shopify loads pixels only on your storefront and checkout pages [1], so an order completed inside TikTok or on Amazon never produced a pixel event. Meta moved Facebook and Instagram shop checkout onto merchants' own stores in August 2025 [2], which turned the most-asked-about social channel back into web traffic. For TikTok Shop and marketplaces, the decision is which destinations should receive a sale that never touched your site, and TikTok already counts Shop orders on a ledger of its own [6].

Key Takeaways

  • Read the Channel column on your Shopify Orders page before trusting any channel list. Shopify publishes no fixed set of order source values [8].
  • A Facebook or Instagram shop order placed since August 26, 2025 checks out on your online store, so your checkout pixels fire for it [2]. When the Channel column on the order shows your online store, the app files it as a storefront order too.
  • On WeltPixel Conversion Tracking's free plan (GA4 up to 100 orders a month [10]), off-site orders aren't sent server-side and don't count toward the 100.
  • On Plus ($39/month [10]), off-site orders go to every enabled destination by default, and one per-pixel exclude setting covers TikTok Shop, marketplaces, POS, drafts and renewals together.
  • Google Ads skips orders without a click ID unless the no-click-ID upload is on, so TikTok Shop and marketplace sales don't reach it by default.
  • If you run TikTok GMV Max, turn on the exclude setting for your TikTok pixel. GMV Max already attributes Shop orders, organic ones included [6].

Where checkout finished decides what tracking can see

Every sale lands in the same Shopify admin, so these orders look alike. Your tracking sees them very differently, because a pixel runs in a shopper's browser on your store, and Shopify is specific about where: "Pixels automatically load on the Storefront, Checkout, Thank you page, and Order status page" [1]. An order whose checkout finished anywhere else has no pixel event, and no setting changes that.

Sort your channels by that one fact and the matrix falls out:

Channel Where checkout finishes Browser session on your store? What tracking has to work with
Online store, including visits from any ad Your store Yes Pixel events, server-side events, deduplication
Facebook and Instagram shop, since August 26, 2025 Your store Yes Checkout pixel events; a storefront order in the app when the Channel column shows your online store
Direct checkout on a Meta surface Inside Meta No Order data only
TikTok Shop TikTok No Order data only, customer details masked by default
Amazon, eBay, Walmart, Target Plus via Marketplace Connect The marketplace No Order data only, value with or without tax

The direct-checkout row belongs with agentic commerce. Shopify's Selling on Meta page describes customers who "start a purchase directly from a Meta surface, such as Muse, and complete their order without leaving Meta" [3], and the agentic-commerce guide covers what your tracking can see on those paths.

Shopify's API won't hand you a tidy channel list either: the order's sourceName field is documented only by example, and channelInformation is now marked deprecated [8]. The Channel column on your own Orders page is the list that matters.

Instagram and Facebook shop orders became web orders in August 2025

Shopify's requirements page for the Facebook & Instagram channel says Meta "is no longer a marketplace tax facilitator for new orders created as of August 26, 2025", and that "Customers are now redirected to the online store to complete their purchase instead of Meta handling checkout natively on their platform." A shopper in your Instagram shop selects Checkout on seller's website and lands in your Shopify checkout [2].

So for Instagram the answer is yes. The order has a session and the pixels on your checkout and thank-you page fire [2]. When the Channel column on the order shows your online store, the app files it as a storefront order too. Nothing in your Meta setup needs to change for these orders. Still choosing how to send Meta server-side events? Start with the Meta CAPI comparison.

The exception is the direct-checkout row, whose Shopify page carries no date. Those orders "are displayed in your Shopify admin in the same way as for any other sales channel" [3], so they're easy to mistake for the web kind.

What happens to a TikTok Shop or marketplace order after it lands in Shopify?

It arrives as a record. When a TikTok Shop order is placed, TikTok checks your Shopify inventory, and if stock is available "an order is created in your Shopify admin" with "the TikTok order ID, the amount of the payment, the estimated tax, and the customer details" [4]. Refunds, returns and cancellations are completed in TikTok Seller Center [4]. Shopify's page doesn't say whether a Seller Center refund then appears on the Shopify order, so check one before trusting your GA4 refund data for these sales.

The customer details are thinner than they look. TikTok's seller FAQ answers why customer details are masked in Shopify by pointing to the default: sellers using TikTok from Shopify are placed on TikTok Shipping [5]. If you've ever opened a TikTok Shop order and wondered why the customer section says so little, that's why. It matters because ad platforms match server-side purchases on those details.

Marketplace Connect imports Amazon, eBay, Walmart and Target Plus orders, and the value follows a tax setting: withheld, "the order is imported to Shopify excluding tax"; sent, it arrives "including tax in the order details" [7]. Target Plus orders show no tax in your admin at all [7]. Every destination receives the order total as imported, so an illustrative $80 marketplace sale reaches your reports as $80 or with tax on top, depending on one Marketplace Connect setting.

From there, what each destination receives in WeltPixel Conversion Tracking follows the plan:

Destination Free plan Plus plan, default settings
GA4 Not sent server-side Purchase with revenue, no source, medium or campaign
Meta, TikTok, Reddit, Pinterest, Snapchat, OpenAI Ads Not on the free plan Sent as a website conversion, matched on hashed customer details
Google Ads Not on the free plan Skipped unless the no-click-ID upload is on
Klaviyo Not on the free plan Placed Order event

GA4 gets the sale because the revenue is real, and it lands without a campaign because no browser session existed to carry one. The (not set) guide shows where those purchases end up. Every ad destination receives these orders labelled as a website conversion, although Meta defines values like physical_store and system_generated for sales made elsewhere [9]. The app doesn't use them, one more reason the exclude decision matters more for ad platforms than for GA4.

Why can't you exclude TikTok Shop on its own?

The app sorts orders into two classes. Storefront orders came through your online store; everything else shares one bucket: TikTok Shop, marketplace orders, POS, draft and admin-created orders, subscription renewals, Shop app orders and anything another app created. The admin and POS orders guide explains that classification and the per-pixel switch that controls it.

You can't keep POS sales in Meta and drop TikTok Shop orders from Meta. Turning on the exclude setting for a pixel removes the whole bucket from that pixel. On a subscription store the bucket includes renewals, which the subscription tracking guide treats as a decision of its own. Excluded orders count as skipped, not failed, in the app's per-pixel view, so switching the setting on won't drag down your delivery accuracy figure.

Which destinations should see off-site orders?

Make the call per destination: all off-site orders, or none.

GA4: keep them. GA4 is where you reconcile revenue against Shopify, and a total missing TikTok Shop and marketplace sales understates the business. With no campaign attached, they add revenue without crediting any traffic source.

Meta, Reddit, Pinterest, Snapchat and OpenAI Ads: exclude if your Channel column shows TikTok Shop or marketplace orders every week. Those sales didn't come from any of these platforms' ads, yet each would be reported as a website purchase. Keep them only if the bucket is mostly POS or phone sales you want a platform to learn from, with the Shop orders riding along.

Google Ads: nothing to do by default. If you've turned on "Import all events that have user-provided data, even those without GCLID" to capture phone or draft orders, TikTok Shop and marketplace orders become eligible too whenever they carry a hashed identifier. The Enhanced Conversions settings guide covers that setting.

Klaviyo: Placed Order fires for these orders unless that Klaviyo connection is excluded. TikTok Shop customer records are masked [5], so check what your post-purchase flows do with them.

Should TikTok Shop orders reach your TikTok pixel?

If you run GMV Max, no. TikTok's GMV Max attribution page (last updated June 2026) says "All relevant conversions will be attributed to GMV Max while the campaign is running", including a purchase where the customer "doesn't view or click on any ads", with a 1-day window for ad views and clicks [6]. That page doesn't mention the pixel or the Events API at all.

Your TikTok pixel and Events API feed a second ledger, the website one. On Plus with default settings, each TikTok Shop order also goes there, carrying the masked customer record, into a ledger that was never meant to hold it. Best case, it sits unmatched. Worst case, a web campaign gets credit for a sale GMV Max already counted.

Run the arithmetic on an illustrative store: 400 website orders a month at $60 ($24,000) driven by TikTok web campaigns, 250 TikTok Shop orders at $40 ($10,000), and $8,000 of web campaign spend. Web ROAS on the true figures is 3.0. If TikTok credited every forwarded Shop order to those web campaigns, reported revenue would be $34,000 against the same $8,000, a ROAS of 4.25. The real number sits somewhere between the two. TikTok doesn't publish a match rate for these orders, and I won't invent one.

TikTok Shop revenue belongs in TikTok Shop's own reporting and in your GA4 and finance totals. On Plus that means turning on the TikTok pixel's exclude setting, knowing POS and renewal orders leave that pixel too. Without GMV Max the double-credit risk shrinks, but the web ledger still counts sales that never happened on your site. Your TikTok Events API setup doesn't change; only the orders reaching it do. If you report one blended ROAS across platforms, decide once whether Shop revenue sits in the numerator, and write it down.

Check your own channel mix in ten minutes

  1. In your Shopify admin, open Orders, filter to the last 30 days, and count the orders from each channel in the Channel column other than your online store.
  2. Place each of those channels on the matrix above. Anything whose checkout finished off your store has no pixel event, whatever your pixel setup looks like.
  3. In GA4, open Reports → Monetization → Overview for the same 30 days and compare purchase revenue with Shopify's total. On the free plan, the off-site revenue is missing.
  4. In the app, open each pixel's advanced settings, note whether the exclude setting for admin and API orders is on, and check the TikTok pixel first if TikTok Shop showed up in step 1.

The per-pixel exclude setting, plus off-site orders sent to GA4 server-side so its revenue lines up with Shopify's, is what WeltPixel Conversion Tracking [10] gives you on the Plus plan, one destination at a time.

FAQ

Do Instagram shop orders fire the Meta pixel?

Yes, for standard shop orders placed since August 26, 2025. Customers complete the purchase on your online store, so your checkout pixels fire [2]. When the Channel column on the order shows your online store, the app files it as a storefront order too. Direct checkout inside a Meta surface is a separate path with no browser session on your store [3].

Can GA4 attribute a TikTok Shop order to a campaign?

No. The order completes inside TikTok, so no session on your store exists to carry a campaign. A server-side purchase can still record the revenue, unattributed.

Will TikTok count a TikTok Shop order twice if it reaches my pixel?

Nobody publishes a figure for that. GMV Max already attributes Shop orders, organic ones included [6], and a forwarded order adds the same sale to the website ledger with a masked customer record [5]. Excluding off-site orders from the TikTok pixel removes the question.

Do off-site orders count toward the free plan's 100-order limit?

No. The free plan counts only storefront orders toward its 100 a month [10], and it doesn't send off-site orders server-side at all.
